Moving back to where I grew up has been kind of a strange thing. Somehow all the people I grew up with all became adults too, and here we are doing adult things together! Our realtor is a friend I met in Middle school. The reading teacher at my boys school I met in 3rd or 4th grade. Jenni does my hair, and we met in Elementary school too. I love that some things changed while I was away but many things stayed the same. It has been wonderful to have so many wonderful friends to come back to.

My family went so Spokane so I could take pictures for Jenni and her sweet kiddos. A perk of doing pictures for friends is we ended the night with ice cream while all the kids played. Their house is the perfect location for pictures but especially family pictures where kids can run an play. The warm sunset was the delicious kind of light that every photographer lives for. The boys weren’t as excited for pictures as little Greta. I tried talking her into coming home with me but apparently she’s pretty fond of her Mom. But she did invite me over to play again soon.

Every pregnant woman deserves for feel like a Goddess. Because let’s be honest, growing a human is exhausting and amazing! Being pregnant is so  hard. And when you are in the thick of it it is hard to feel beautiful or take time for yourself so you can feel that way.

As part of my maternity sessions I am now including the use of custom made maternity gowns. These gowns are made to flatter your growing belly. There will be no need to stress over finding an outfit that is flattering, because you can just choose from a collection of beautiful dresses. There are dresses of all colors and styles. If you have something in particular let me know and we will make it happen.

Beautiful Sara was the first to try the new plum gown. It is a stunning color that looks beautiful with the fall colors. Sara was even brave enough to get into the Coeur d’Alene river! I love maternity sessions in the water, they just look so effortless.

A few weeks ago I had a fabulous idea for a session that included a hot air ballon. Since my business here in Coeur d’Alene is still brand new I don’t have a lot of previous clients, so I put out a model call. I had a lot of people apply for the model call, like 50 more people than I expected. I went through every email and looked at all the cute kiddos. This little sweetheart stood out first thing. She has an adorable smile, the most beautiful red hair and piercing blue eyes. I thought that she was cute in pictures but I had no idea she would be so much cuter in person.

Adeline was an so much fun to photograph. I think my favorite part was the little dance she did when her parents started singing “Go Addie, Go Addie, Go Addie” to get her pumped up. It obvious that she has some of the best parents around. They were willing to do just about anything to get this girl to smile. All of their efforts show through in her adorable pictures.

If you are in the Coeur d’Alene area and looking for a photographer I would love to work with you. I’ve got a few other exciting session ideas up my sleeve!

When we found out that we would be able to move to Coeur d’Alene after dental school we were over the moon! We had always planned on coming back but we thought that would still be years away. We just planned on taking the job closest to Coeur d’Alene and then moving to Coeur d’Alene as soon as we could. We never imagined that we would be able to move back right after graduation.

Since we knew that this was where we wanted to stay forever we also knew we wanted to buy a house. Eli is 8 and we are ready to start putting down roots. Buying a house didn’t happen exactly like we had dreamed. We were buying in a time with not a lot of houses available and  lots of buyers. We had another strike against us that we were living in Seattle and trying to buy in Idaho. If something we liked came on the market it was usually gone before we could get there. So we decided to build! It wasn’t our first choice and we were a little unsure about it, but in the end everything worked out and we know it was meant to be.

They are finally breaking ground on our house this week! So a few days ago we went over as a family to have a little ground breaking ceremony. Now as a Mom I had big dreams of this little ceremony. We would all take a turn digging up a little dirt and talk about what we were most excited about the house and the memories we would make there. And then we’d go the Resort for fancy desserts. That’s not exactly what happen, not even a little bit! Once the boys go there with the wide open space, piles of rock and dirt the boys scattered. The dirt was much harder than they expected so they gave up digging pretty quick. Instead of talking about our hopes and dreams we tried to make sure they didn’t hit each other with the shovels. And the fancy dessert after? They were filthy after our 10 minutes there, so no fancy dessert either. We made memories, so I guess that’s what counts.

We are so excited to watch our house be built. Here’s to a quick, delay free house!

Cheers to an exciting new adventure!

Last week Dan had corporate training in Portland. The boys and I tagged along on the trip and made a vacation out of it. In my mind when I’m planning these trips it’s always just a good time. I always forget how difficult it is to travel with kids! Sleeping in a hotel, eating out a restaurants, missing naps, wanting to buy things at every place we stop and being in the car for hours and hours is just more than the little people can take sometimes!

After training was over on Wednesday we packed up the car and made the hour drive to the ocean. Nothing says summer fun like playing around at the beach! The only problem is we forgot how blasted cold it is at Washington and Oregon beaches! Thankfully we had left our sweatshirts in the back of the car. We just happened to be there for low tide and we had planned on staying until sunset but it was so overcast that after 2 hours it was getting dark and cold. Even the cold weather couldn’t break our spirits. Being at the ocean is so calming and good for your soul. We had such a wonderful time playing and exploring together.  The 2 hours we spent there were magical, and completely worth the drive!

Crazy Logan stripped off his shirt the second he saw the beach! He couldn’t have cared less about how cold it was!

Sometimes we’re confused about what color Jackson’s hair really is. He was born a redhead, and inside it looks mostly blonde but come outside and surprise, he’s a redhead again!

A little proof that I was actually there!

Just days after our move to Coeur d’Alene one of my favorite Seattle clients referred one of her best friends to me. As chance would have it I live very close to her. Referring friends and family is the biggest compliment you can give your photographer. You can advertise, post on Facebook, and hustle big time but the greatest way to grow a business is through word of mouth. Starting off basically from nothing again that really meant a lot to me.

Even before meeting Ashley I knew I would like her. How you ask? Because she’s friends with Aubrey and that means she’s my kind of person! When Ashley arrived with her sweet family and adorable baby Clara I knew it was going to be a fantastic session. Starting my business in a new city also means finding new locations to use for sessions. We found a beautiful stop by the river. Really this location and family are what family session dreams are made of!

It has been so long since I blogged on this little site that I almost forgot how to log in! This summer has been absolutely crazy. We moved 6 weeks ago and we have already been back to Seattle twice and Portland once, my Mom has had two heart surgeries, and my sister stayed with us for 10 days! Dan has his first real day as a dentist today and my big boys start school next week. I am ready to get back to a routine and my business.

This session happened just a few days before we left Seattle. My beloved Fisher family came up to Seattle for 1 more magical session before I moved. The light was absolutely dreamy and the company was even better. They really are some of my favorite people in the world. Amy very quickly went from a client to a friend when I did Everett’s newborn pictures. She is one of the happiest, most genuine people I have ever met. I consider myself so lucky that I get to be her friend and photographer. It really has been a wonderful almost 4 years capturing their sweet family. And I will come running back to Seattle anytime they need pictures!

This little boy has had my heart since his newborn session. He slept like a perfect angel until the very end of his session. He opened those big, curious eyes and just started at me. He instantly knew that I wasn’t a familiar person. He didn’t fuss or get upset, he just stared at me. He didn’t take his eyes off of me until I felt.

Oh, the many faces of Cora!

Not to toot my own horn, okay maybe just a little, this picture received first place at the North Idaho State fair as well as 2nd place over all. It’s not hard to see why, this little girl is an absolute beauty.

Their relationship has come a long way in the last year. I can safely say they are pretty fond of each other!

These beautiful cherry blossom pictures are some of my favorite maternity pictures I’ve done. Kiley is absolutely radiant and the blossoms were magical. I hope after our move to Coeur’d Alene I will be able to find breath taking locations like this!

I am now booking sessions for North Idaho and Eastern Washington, including maternity sessions. If you are interested in a session please message me for more information.

I cannot think of a more beautiful location for pictures. I love the tulip festival with all my heart! Honestly, I could go walk around the tulip fields everyday for the whole month of April and never get tired of it. When Hillary contacted me about pictures she apologized for it being so last minute. I was free, but truth be told I would have cancelled any plans I had to make this session happen. The tulips were a little late opening, but they still did not let me down. I think I will have to make a special trip to Seattle next spring to see them. How can I go a year without tulips?

This absolutely adorable family made this tulip session a dream come. It was a little chilly but they didn’t let on for a second that they were cold. And sweet little Carter with his suspenders and seersucker pants? I just wanted to keep him forever, what’s one more boy in my house anyway? Why don’t you see for yourself!
